The Power of Words to Unlock Worlds

Help others say hello to self-expression, participation and access through literacy

If you’re reading this, you’re already blessed.

Oftentimes we take for granted the power to make sense of a series of lines, curves and squiggles at the speed of a millisecond. To us, fortunate enough to read and write almost as second nature as breathing, the written word has allowed us to express ourselves, discover ideas and information that unlock our own creativity or activism, discern truths and participate in our communities and world-building.

For many this is an entire world waiting to be opened – and if you, a company or someone you know is ready to help others open the first page – good news, we have volunteer and partnership opportunities!

Whether you’re a volunteer teacher, social media support, or potential corporate partner, your volunteerism can contribute to this kind of impact:

  1. Reducing Poverty & increasing opportunity

Did you know? If every child in low-income countries left school able to read, 171 million people could escape poverty. In fact, each extra year of schooling boosts earnings by 10% on average. Literate communities thrive with stronger local economies

  1. Higher civic participation

Communities with higher literacy see higher voter turnout and stronger advocacy. Literacy empowers people to make their concerns known, to ask more, and to most importantly shape their future

  1. Access to information and self-expression

Literacy unlocks access to information and to knowledge and the more one reads, the sharper and more discerning one becomes. Literacy helps community members find out more on who leads them, the environment they live in (and why it is in its current state) and spark ideas on how to better the world. Literacy then empowers all of us to react, respond and express our concerns, ideas and creativity.

Ready to make a difference? Volunteers and partners needed!

We at TheOneHourProject are privileged to work with partner non-government organisation (NGO) Binhi English Literacy Foundation, Inc. Binhi has the noble mission of providing supportive and effective learning environments and to equip every Binhi scholar with the necessary skills, resources, and guidance to boost their fluency in the English language and foster their academic growth.

For those who can give their time and go to their partner public schools, testers are needed this November for the mid-test. They will also need buddies to tutor the kids virtually.  But if teaching isn’t your thing, fear not,  you don’t need to be a teacher or tutor – Binhi needs digital marketing strategists too. We have the following volunteer posts for Binhi and an open call for corporate partnerships.

Binhi posts:

  1.  Testers (immediate need for November, 2025 mid-tests)
  2. Digital Tutors
  3. Marketing strategists
