Love in Action: When Volunteering is Hardest

How  she channeled her professional expertise into purposeful volunteer work

“Love is showing up in small ways that matter more than you expect” – Kelly Pang, Volunteer Digital Superhero and Consultant

As we tackle ‘love in action’ this February, we turn the spotlight on our volunteers, who bring this to life every time they show up and  bring their time, talent and support for a cause. Words are easy but following through with real action is where love can be found.

This is indeed confirmed by our feature volunteer, Kelly Pang who says “The biggest challenge [to volunteer work] is balancing life while still wanting to give wholeheartedly”. And yet, despite this challenge, Kelly logged in 8 hours of volunteer work in 2025 lending her expertise to groundups at the Building all Groundups for Success (BAGUS) Together event.

Kelly was a digital superhero and consultant during the event, sharing her professional know-how to groundups in Singapore – doing what she’s always done professionally but for a good cause. She spent the day guiding community organisations towards messaging and branding that would drive awareness, clarity and value to what they were doing.

While Kelly was used to marketing for corporations and brands, this was helping organisations market ideas and movements that enriched society at another level and in  various areas  that reflected  what communities cared about and valued.

23 groundups at the event showcased a range of notable causes: from supporting seniors (hello Project Gift of Song and Bridging Generations for example) to helping young people such as Saturday Socials, Youthful Thinking and Kids PlaySafer and environment, culture and education advocates like Foodscape Collective, Fashion Escape and Art & Grow Collective to name a few.

“I volunteered because I wanted to use what I know to help in a way that’s practical and meaningful. Digital marketing is something I’ve spent years building, and volunteering felt like a way to give that back not just in theory, but in real, tangible ways” she says, proving that you just have to be yourself to bring positivity to your community.

Volunteer work; after all, is not open to only a few ‘types’ of people. You can channel what you do into something with purpose, even if finding time might be the biggest challenge together with the grit to follow through on the commitment.

“Life’s unpredictability isn’t always easy. There are moments when energy is limited, and learning to offer what you can is part of the journey” concludes Kelly. Again, proof that Volunteer work, like love, is simply putting the intention of helping others into action even and especially when it’s difficult.
