Let them read: How to lift 171 million people out of poverty

MONTHLY NOTE

The power of literacy to improve lives is more than we realize.

We all carry advocacies that are close to our hearts. For me, it has always been about providing literacy and learning opportunities. I believe every person deserves the chance to read, to learn, and to unlock new possibilities in life—regardless of their circumstances.

I also recently found out that an estimated  171 million could escape poverty if all students in low-income countries left school with basic reading and writing skills. That is a lot of lives that can be changed – and while the number is daunting, we are humbled to coordinate help with the most compassionate of volunteers and organisations in our own little way.

For the past four years, we’ve been fortunate to support Binhi English Literacy Foundation, Inc. in this mission. It has been humbling to witness how access to learning can open doors, spark confidence, and give people the courage to imagine bigger futures.

At the heart of what we do is a simple belief: every person—especially the less fortunate and underserved—deserves a fair chance to learn, to grow, and to thrive. And we will continue to find every way possible to make that chance a reality.

This month, we at TheOneHourProject (TOHP) dive into the power of words and how it unlocks a world of self-expression, participation and access. We also open the page to BINHI – our NGO partner that aims to uplift lives through literacy – and how you can help. Together, we can turn the page, one hour at a time, on poverty.
