This July marks a special time for TheOneHourProject as they celebrate their third anniversary. In this final installment of our interview series with its founder, Madelene Ortega, she shares the impact the organization has made and what the future holds for this innovative initiative.
TheOneHourProject doesn’t just connect volunteers with opportunities; they focus on creating long-term partnerships while empowering nonprofits. Madelene discloses, “While our primary support to organizations is recruiting adhoc or micro volunteers, we find opportunities to help make their operations more efficient and digital.” Madelene brings her experience as a marketing and digital leader to non-profit partners, leveraging technology and her proven management skills to streamline operations, improve volunteer orientation, and automate day-to-day tasks so their team can focus on their core mission.
One example of this commitment is TheOneHourProject’s collaboration with BINHI, a foundation that offers learning programs for children attending public elementary schools. “We helped BINHI transition to virtual volunteering during the pandemic,” Madelene recalls. “It was an especially difficult time, as we were all adapting to the challenges of the pandemic and the shift to virtual work, but we continued to find ways to help BINHI during the period and showed the opportunity for virtual volunteering. This experience helped us build a stronger partnership with the team.” This hands-on approach by TheOneHourProject allowed BINHI to focus on their English Literacy advocacy for young children in the Philippines. .
Looking ahead, Madelene expressed enthusiasm about TheOneHourProject’s future goals. “We’re excited to celebrate our 3rd anniversary this July, and two key areas will be our focus,” she enthuse. “First, our success with the Bagus Together partnership has inspired us to scale our Digital Superheroes Program. We want to provide more opportunities for skilled volunteers and build a stronger community that supports and inspires them. Skilled volunteering is a powerful way to use expertise in meaningful ways, gain new experiences, and meet like-minded individuals,” Madelene explains. “Second, we aim to offer our partners more in-depth digital marketing support, including groundups, community initiatives, and other impact organizations. Our goal is to empower a diverse range of impact organizations to leverage the full potential of digital marketing to scale their initiatives,” she declares.
TheOneHourProject’s story is one of collaboration, innovation, and a deep commitment to making sustainable change through strong relationships. By empowering skilled volunteers and supporting non-profit organizations, Madelene and her team show the world that we can all find the time to help one another, unleash our inner hero, and start with as little as one hour.
