Imagine a community where seniors and youth come together to share stories, exchange lessons, and build connections.
In this space, age doesn’t matter—everyone has something valuable to say, regardless of their stage in life. Here, kindness becomes the bond that brings people together.
This is what GenLab Collective is all about.
GenLab Collective is our partner organisation that works to break down barriers between generations—creating opportunities and spaces for people of all ages to engage and learn from one another. Through various programs, they show how simple acts of kindness can build a stronger, more united community.
How Did GenLab Collective Start?
GenLab Collective was founded in 2021 with a clear mission: to connect people across generations.
Based in Singapore and led by a young, passionate team, this non-profit organisation saw the growing gap between generations and wanted to close it. They aim to create spaces where people of different age groups can come together, understand each other, and truly form lasting bonds.
At the heart of GenLab’s mission is the idea that connecting generations isn’t just about bringing young and old together. It’s about giving seniors a chance to share their wisdom, while younger people bring fresh ideas and energy—creating a valuable exchange of perspectives.
GenLab Collective’s Initiatives Today
GenLab Collective has created these programs to meet the unique needs of different age groups. Here are some highlights of their initiatives:
- Intergenerational Community Events: Their flagship public events, such as GenDate, pair participants with at least a 20-year age gap to encourage meaningful conversations and shared learning. These events feature expert speakers and interactive activities, creating a supportive space for dialogue and exploration.
- Narrative Storytelling Programs: GenLab’s storytelling workshops allow participants to create and share narratives based on seniors’ life experiences. This helps preserve valuable histories while teaching young people important communication skills.
- Experiential Training Workshops: In partnership with schools and community organisations, these workshops teach students how to communicate effectively with older adults and the importance of intergenerational communication using the Design Thinking methodology.
