Saturdays with Gentle Giants

Loving and nurturing environment for the children of Gentle Giants.

By Bernise A. Bringas

Every child deserves the opportunity to learn and grow, and Gentle Giants Novelty Printing, Inc. is proud to provide a supportive and nurturing environment where they can do just that. With their help, children with neurodevelopmental disabilities can gain the confidence, knowledge, and skills they need to succeed in life.

Co-founder Alf Peña-Reyes, shares in an interview that, “the advantage of Gentle Giants Novelty Printing, Inc. lies in its focus on art. Our mission is clear: Art can be utilized as an economic engine for our members. Our value proposition is showcasing our members’ artistic talents in every unique piece of merchandise or artwork. Our edge lies in the vast network of supportive people from different backgrounds and professions. We highly value the contributions of people who volunteer to share their time and artistic talents as resource speakers in our organized events.”

Gentle Giants members print out their unique artworks on a variety of products from mugs to eco-bags and shirts and every successfully finished product is met with applause from other members and parents. “The members of the Gentle Giants community exude humility, innocence, purity, and cheerfulness that allow them to find much joy and passion in the simplest things in life,” Peña-Reyes adds. This is a huge achievement since children with neurodevelopmental disabilities experience difficulty with language, speech, and even motor skills. Yet, every week, on Saturdays, with the unconditional support of their parents, they show up and learn.

Since the birth of Gentle Giants Novelty Printing, Inc. in January 2020 with a core group of 20 individuals and gradually growing to 40 in March, it seems founders Josephine Palomares, chairperson of Boundless Possibilities Foundation, Inc., a non-profit organization that provides transitional services and community activities for adults with neurodevelopmental disabilities and Peña-Reyes, he himself a self-starter, servant-leader, entrepreneur, and part-time faculty mentor of the University of Asia and the Pacific, is certainly on the path of its vision: “We envision Gentle Giants to be able to provide its members with a steady stream of income comparable to what their gainfully employed contemporaries are earning. We plan to achieve this vision with a pioneer batch of 50 members. We would like to develop a proof of concept that can be replicated in other similar communities nationwide. Through our profit-sharing arrangement, each member should be able to make 10,000 to 15,000 pesos a month. We pray that our client base will grow through the help of companies engaged in corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts. They can, perhaps, consider making our merchandise part of their value chain.”

Gentle Giants organization extends a warm welcome to all individuals seeking to make a difference.
