In 2015, member states of the United Nations (UN) adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which centers on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These goals represent a universal and urgent call for action to improve the planet and quality of human life by the year 2030. Among these goals is Goal 13: Climate Action, which aims to combat climate change and its impact through immediate measures.
According to the UN Volunteers publication “The Contribution of Volunteering to Climate Action and Community Resilience”, volunteerism comes in many forms and offers innumerable means for responding to climate change and building community resilience, which can be categorized as contributions to: knowledge and capacity-building, disaster preparedness and response, mitigation and adaptation implementation, climate governance and gender equity and youth-led climate action.
Aligned with the UN’s recognition of the significant impact of volunteering efforts in addressing climate change, TheOneHourProject (TOHP) serves as a platform to empower volunteerism. It encourages individuals to contribute to meaningful causes and channels these selfless acts into a collective effort to promote a more inclusive and caring society. Explore and discover initiatives dedicated in the advancement of sustainable development goals such as these:
Sustainability Exchange is EB Impact’s flagship mentorship initiative designed for youths in Singapore and aligned with the UN SDGs, focusing on quality education, sustainable cities and communities and climate action. Since its inception in 2019, the program has completed three seasons, mentored over 130 youths, equipping them with tools to improve the feasibility of their real-world projects under the mentorship of sustainability professionals.
TOHP has supported its past winners with social media advisors who help establish online presence and brand value for their projects. Committed to driving a positive sustainable development impact in Singapore and the wider Asia region, Sustainability Exchange has launched its fourth season in collaboration with TOHP and other organizations supporting sustainable and impactful initiatives.

Climate Hack is a virtual program organized by Singapore International Foundation in collaboration with its partner organizations, creating a space for youths to ideate and develop tech-driven solutions to mitigate and adapt to climate change impacts. Since its pilot edition in 2021, the program has engaged more than 240 participants from over 14 countries across Asia, industry experts in climate issues and over 50 volunteers from Singapore. The initiative’s impact was recognized when it received the Digital Skills Innovation Award in the Lifelong Learning category from the World Bank in 2021.
Now returning for its third year, Climate Hack 2024 will provide participants from across Asia with training and mentorship from industry experts. They will learn about climate change, problem-solving approaches and digital skills before being formed into teams and apply their learning to develop a digital solution prototype for climate change.
