Adhoc Volunteering and the World

UNV (UN Volunteers). The primary provider of volunteers for the United Nations, UNV constantly has ad hoc volunteering tasks in various regions around the world. It has an online volunteering portal where you can find several assignments that you can do remotely. One such program is a writing and editing task for the Global Welfare Association (GLOWA), which is developing a concept note to help victims of labor and sex trafficking in Cameroon acquire marketable skills. If you can help with 1-5 hours each week, sign up here.

Self Help. Improving mental health through a range of support and services across England’s North West is the main objective of this organization. They continuously need steam of volunteers to help execute much of their programs but at present, their current vacancy is for eTherapy support. This Adhoc volunteering role involves supervision of the venue and machines used for eTherapy sessions, which normally last for 2 hours and are held at specific community venues. Training is provided for successful applicants but for a start, you need to possess good communication skills. If you think you are ready to take on this task, click to download the volunteer application form.

Volunteer Now. This is your gateway to various volunteering opportunities in Northern Ireland, on an adhoc basis and otherwise. One of their programs, which may only require one hour of your time each week is their Befriending Scheme within the Belfast Health & Social Care Trust area. Volunteer befrienders are matched with a socially isolated senior they would pay a weekly visit to build friendship and simply provide company. A commitment of at least 6 months and being sensitive to other people’s opinions and beliefs are required. If you are interested to get involved, email Victoria O’Neill (Victoria.O’[email protected])

Serve the City Peninsula. Started in 2005 as a humble, single-week service in Brussels by a Christian community called The Well, this organization has now engaged 65 cities in its volunteer involvement program. They have a very busy events calendar, putting together adhoc volunteers for some specific tasks. One of their forthcoming events is a partnership with the Barrette-Peake Heritage Foundation for the maintenance of Elmerton Cemetery in Hampton, Virginia, USA. If you can help with lawn maintenance and trash pickup on May 23, 2021, from 2:00-4:00pm, you will only need to register and complete a liability waiver, which will be handed over at the start of the event for first-time volunteers.

Color A Smile. Based in Morristown, New Jersey, this organization offers what could possibly be the most fun ad hoc volunteering task available. The Volunteer to Color program allows anyone of any age to take part and there is no signup procedure to go through. All you need to do to “Color a Smile” is simply go to their website, find the instruction on coloring pages based on your age group, and start moving to finish the task in 4 steps: print, color, sign, and mail. The cheerful artworks mailed to the Color A Smile Foundation are sent out to anyone in need of a smile, including seniors and troops overseas.
