Companies that Give Back

Employee volunteerism as a practice of corporate social responsibility is rising in popularity. It is a great way to engage employees, raise morale, and it is very good for physical and mental health. Here are some companies that have leveled-up their variety of ways to give back.

AppDynamics
AppDynamics, an application performance management (APM) and IT operations analytics (ITOA) company based in San Francisco, USA, gives their employees 5 paid volunteer days off every year. They have a community-focused program called AppD Cares that encourages its people to give back. 

NVIDIA
The NVIDIA Foundation has the Inspire 365 initiative for their employees where through matching gifts, flexible time off, and a variety of activities and tools, employees can contribute when, where and how they choose. They benefit communities through grants that accelerate cancer research, support patient care, and tutoring and mentoring through an AI-focused youth education initiative. 

3M
3M Gives supports students interested in careers in STEM and skilled trade opportunities. They have the 3M Visiting Wizards program, 3M Tech Talks, 3M Science at Home and the STEM Works For Me campaign developed by DoSomething in partnership with 3M. This campaign aims to educate students from underrepresented backgrounds to learn more about STEM. 

PwC
PwC internships offer opportunities for real-life experiences. Despite the restrictions brought about by the global pandemic in 2020, PwC interns still participated in a team-building exercise that involved thinking of innovative ideas for five different nonprofits. This created relationships with nonprofit organizations that appreciated new perspectives for their issues and concerns. 

Verizon
Verizon offers a $750 gift for every 50 hours of volunteer work completed under Verizon’s volunteer grant program which has three phases: Verizon’s Digital Inclusion Program, Verizon’s Climate Protection Initiative, and Verizon’s Human Prosperity Commitment. 

MetLife
MetLife held a global “Volunteering with Purpose – 90 Days of Giving”, a three-month global campaign which encourages all their employees to participate in a range of volunteer initiatives in support of environmental and community causes around the world coinciding with their second annual Asia Corporate Social Responsibility Month in October of 2021. MetLife Asia employees clocked in about 6,000 volunteer hours from street clean-ups in Japan, assembling 600 athletic kits for Special Olympics Young Athletes in China to pledging to plant over 30,000 trees in India. 

Colgate-Palmolive
Colgate-Palmolive’s employee volunteer program focuses on community service and employee engagement and satisfaction. Among the more popular programs is the Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Futures offering free dental checkups and education to children worldwide. In addition, the organization also provides volunteer opportunities for employees to participate in sports programs, after-school tutoring, and animal welfare activities. 

SCOR
#WorkingWellTogether is an employee-led initiative of SCOR that empowers people to engage with the community and the world. SCOR for Good, a Group-wide community engagement program built around a digital platform, makes it easy for all employees to see what others are doing across the globe, volunteer, and find ways to use their skills Opportunities include field work, skills sharing, donations and fundraising.
